My research paper is going to be based on the cruel treatments animals have to endure while in farms. My research question is: How are the harsh conditions in animal farms affecting the rest of the population? To answer this question, I first need to provide background information of the current situations. From my research that I have already done, I have realized that there are many different definitions and variables that come into factor when talking about animal welfare/cruelty. Religion and political views are the two main factors; however the location where someone is raised also has an effect on their viewpoints. Different cultures have preconceived notions on which animals are sacred and which are to be used as a food source.

Animals are typically pumped up with injections which will allow them
to grow fatter at a quicker rate, resulting in a larger meat supply. The
animals are also kept in small, confined spaces which allow little to no
movement for the duration of their life. The confined animals are feed
with indigestible grains causing many stomach issues along with rapid
weight gain. “Animals are kept alive by steroids, antibiotics, vaccines,
and other drugs (which are used to combat overcrowding and
disease).” The modern farming methods of animals are now a cruel
process, unlike more traditional, natural methods. “Drugs and
technology make it possible to cause animals a great deal of pain and/or suffering without harming farmers’ interests.” (Tanner)

It has also been discovered that due to the injected steroid hormones, the amount of excretion has increased significantly. It has been estimated that all farm animals combined, excrete four more times the amount of oestrogens the human population does in the United Kingdom. Waterways are being severely polluted from the farm animal excreting steroid hormones into drains (Johnson.)

My missing research is statistics on how many people have changed their eating habits in reference to the current situations happening. I also need more evidence to provide me with the changing effects the farms are having on the Earth as well as the viewpoints of the population.
